Recently we showed you photos of our tour to St Catherine’s Monastery https://naturetravelegypt.wordpress.com/2012/09/14/saint-catherines-monastery/
Inside the Monastery and sitting next to the church is a mosque, and seeing the two together got us thinking about all the beautiful churches and mosques in Egypt.
Many people come to Egypt for the antiquities or for sun and sea fun, but Egypt holds centuries of other treasures including its religious buildings. This week we will show you some of them, starting with this slideshow of El-Samaeyeen Cathedral in Sharm el Sheikh.
The building is an impressive landmark in Sharm, sitting above the city with the Sinai Mountains as backdrop, but you really need to go inside because it is the paintings on its interior walls that are its secret riches, and they present stories from the Bible in a unique way.
At a time when religious views in Egypt are in the world media spotlight not in the most positive way, we would like to show you that there are beautiful and positive experiences to be had in the many places religious and spiritual you can visit here.
